Travel Insurance for Namibia: What You Need to Know

Travel insurance is strongly recommended for any trip to Namibia. Whether you’re exploring remote deserts, going on game drives, or flying into small airstrips, having coverage provides peace of mind and protection in unexpected situations.

What Your Travel Insurance Should Cover:

  • Medical Expenses & Emergency Evacuation: Hospitals can be far from remote areas—ensure your policy covers emergency air evacuation and treatment in private facilities.

  • Trip Cancellation or Interruption: In case of flight delays, illness, or unforeseen events.

  • Lost or Stolen Baggage: Especially useful for travelers with camera gear, electronics, or medications.

  • Adventure Activities: Make sure your policy includes coverage for things like hiking, sandboarding, quad biking, or game drives.

Tips:

  • Bring a copy of your insurance policy and emergency contact numbers.

  • Some providers may require upfront payment—keep receipts to claim later.

  • If renting a car, check whether your travel insurance or credit card includes car rental coverage.

What to Wear in Namibia: Clothing Tips for Every Season!

Namibia’s climate can change quickly—from scorching daytime heat to cool desert nights—so packing the right clothing is essential for comfort, sun protection, and adventure.

Essentials for Every Traveler:

  • Lightweight, Breathable Layers: Cotton or moisture-wicking shirts and pants for hot days.

  • Long-Sleeved Shirts & Pants: For sun protection, especially during hikes and safaris.

  • A Warm Jacket or Fleece: Mornings and evenings in the desert and highlands can get chilly—even below freezing in winter (May–Aug).

  • Comfortable Walking Shoes or Hiking Boots: Great for exploring dunes, rocky trails, and game drives.

  • Flip-Flops or Sandals: Perfect for camp showers or relaxing at lodges.

  • Wide-Brim Hat & Sunglasses: Crucial for blocking Namibia’s intense sun.

  • Swimsuit: Some lodges and campsites have pools.

  • Buff or Scarf: Helps with dust protection during game drives or windy days.

Extras to Consider:

  • Neutral-Colored Clothing: Avoid bright colors on safari—stick to khaki, olive, or beige to blend in and not disturb wildlife.

  • Rain Jacket: Especially useful in summer (Nov–March), during the short rainy season.

  • Headlamp or Torch: For campsites and lodges that may not have full lighting at night.

  • Day Pack: To carry water, camera, sunscreen, and snacks during excursions.
